Last night's meal at the hotel was terrific so we decided to have breakfast there - and besides it was included in the price! And again it was very nice. Beautiful breads, cheeses (including Edam of course), eggs to self boil, cold meats, etc. A word of explanation is needed for this first picture. Don likes his creature comforts, especially when it comes to seating, but even he isn't quite this particular. The dining room seat was fine, he was just warming his saddle cover as it had overnight condensation soaked into it!
After breakfast we took a walk around Edam - picturesque it is!
Just after 10 we set out on the road - a very lovely trip through farm holdings and lowland marshes with some small towns , and of course, coffee. I mentioned yesterday how sturdy Dutch bikes are. Here is my steed for this trip.
And here is coffee.
From there our route took us to Zaanse Schans - a place with a fantastic collection of windmills and a fantastic selection of tourists to match.
Next came lunch, and a somewhat disappointing one at that. We won't dwell on it - the Heineken was good!
I don't think I have mentioned how wonderfully healthy all the farm animals that line our route as spectators are. The sheep are fashion plates!
After a day that involved two ferry rides, a short one that cost E0.70 and a long one that was free we arrived in Haarlem. Another beautiful city which turns out to be the best shopping city in the Netherlands. Our hotel is well located - bars, restaurants and a much needed supermarket are all close by.
Once again we got great weather and we hope for a tailwind tomorrow as we head down the coast to Leiden.
Nice bike and love the Windmills
