Day Eight No biking, we're training instead.

We are staying in Delft for two nights so we can see both Delft and The Hague. You already know we are personal friends with the PM so we thought we would go back today and check in on how the government is shaping up.

As everyone wants to see slightly different sights and at different times we decided to split up into couples for the day and then meet again in the evening for drinks in the square and then dinner.

The and I amused ourself by walking the central streets of old Delft first (and it is old!) and then catching a train into Den Haag Centraal mid morning.

Once again the weather was with us. Not super sunny but only the lightest of rain and for a few minutes only.

Here are some photos of Delft first. Our hotel, the central square area, and proof that not every bike trip in Holland ends happily!

Now for Den Haag. A large and important city. One of the best attractions is Mauritshuis where you can see a huge collection of paintings by Dutch masters. These typically date from 1600 - 1660. The most well known piece perhaps is the girl with the pearl earring (although it's actually glass picking up a reflection). Another work by the same artist, Vermeer, shows the old city of Delft in 1600 and we had dinner tonight in a building just behind the right hand spire.

So tomorrow we are back on the road and our destination is Gouda. Kaas anyone?

    1. It's fun Donna! What a bike culture this is. I don't think they have ever thrown away a bicycle based on what we see being ridden each day.
